Dr.
Srestha Banerjee is the Director, Just Transition, at the International Forum
for Environment, Sustainability & Technology (iFOREST), and environmental
research and innovation institute based in Delhi, India. She leads the work of
India Just Transition Centre (IJTC), an initiative of iFOREST. Her current
areas of work include climate change and just transition, mining, natural
resource benefit sharing, environmental justice and participatory governance.
Dr.
Banerjee holds a PhD in Environmental and Energy Policy from the University of
Delaware, and a Masters in Environmental Studies from Ohio University.
Over
the past 12 years, she has worked with India and US-based environment and
public policy think tanks. She has authored/co-authored several scholarly
publications in her areas of work, and also engages in public outreach through
her writings. The book, Just Transition in India: An inquiry into the
challenges and opportunities for a post coal future, which she co-authored with
her peer researchers, is the first on-ground study on just transition in
context of India’s coal economy.
Dr.
Banerjee has been advising policy institutions and government agencies at
national and state levels on issues of mining, natural resource benefit
sharing, participatory planning and governance. Presently she also serves as an
Advisory Board member of Just Transition Initiative, a a partnership project of
the Center for Strategic and International Studies (US) and the Climate Investment
Funds (World Bank).
