[2011 ASIA FUTURE FORUM] Integrative Session 2>> Finding a CSR Model that is Appropriate for the Asian Context

´Ù¿î·Îµå :

Finding a CSR Model that is Appropriate for the Asian Context CSR has risen as one of the most important topics for corporations of the current era. The management system that considers only the stockholders important, disregarding others, has come to its end. Now, in business management, all stakeholders including employees, customers, the environment and local socie-ties must be considered in balance. If the gap between corporations and the society keeps on widening, incidents like Occupy Wall Street will also occur in East Asia. However, no one has come up with a definite answer to the question, ¡®what should we do and how?¡¯ The least measures that the East Asian corporations have taken are only the imitations of the Western models and standards. It is the benchmarking strategy, the one that had led the East Asian corporations to growth. The strategy is about imitating the pioneering corporations and doing it fast. This habit also manifested itself in management. However, that is not enough anymore. East Asian corporations already stand at a point where they have to lead the Western corporations. They can¡¯t lead the western corporations by imitating them. However, Asian societies feature a distinctive context that is different from the West. Now is the time to establish a differentiated CSR model with fair understanding of Asian context. In the second integrative session of Asia Future Forum, ¡®Asia to Asia¡¯, examines that model through re-flecting on East Asian corporations¡¯ CSR case studies. Dayue Yang, the chief quality officer at Huawei Technology, shares his experience in CSR at a Chinese corporation. Yan Wang, the vice president at Me-dia for Mercedes-Benz, presents the challenges that a multi-national corporation had faced in China and how it responded to them. Heon-cheol Shin, the vice chairman at SK Energy, and Sang-hee Yoo, the ex-ecutive director at POSCO Research Institute, also share their experiences in social contribution. Xiaojun Qian, a professor at Tsinghua University, sums the presentations up to provide a comprehensive view CSR in Asian context.
