[2011 ASIA FUTURE FORUM] Preview: the First Day of Asia Future Forum 2011

Can East Asian Economic Community be an Alternative for Overcoming the Crisis? Hankyoreh is hosting Asia Future Forum 2011 from November 15th to 16th under the theme, ‘Moving Beyond Crisis: Responsibility and Symbiosis. In recent years, the world has been facing multiple crises including natural disasters, financial crisis and civic revolution, feeling a dire need for collaboration across countries. The current era requires regional exchange and collaboration. Asia Future Forum 2011 talks about Asian collaboration under the agenda of finding a balance between the world¡¯s prosperity and sustainability. Terashima Jitsuro, Japan¡¯s representative economic critic, and Martin Jacques, a professor at Qinghua University who is well-known for his book, ¡®When China Rules the World: the Rise of the Middle King-dom and the End of the Western World¡¯, inaugurate the Forum with their keynote speeches. After Tera-shima¡¯s speech, four scholars – Young-ho Kim, the chair professor at Korea University; Martin Jacques; Patrick Smith, an expert on Asian issues discuss the future and tasks of East Asian Community. Young-bok Shin, the chief professor at Sungkonghoe University, gives a special lecture on ¡®solidarity as the foundation of the economy¡¯ along with his own artwork. After that, in the first comprehensive session, economics experts from Korea, China and Japan talk about the potential of East Asian Economic Com-munity. In the following comprehensive session, the last program of the day, Asia¡¯s representative busi-ness leaders share their vivid experiences in practicing CSR across borders.
