The Role of Media in Asian Integration and Cooperation Cultivating the sense of identity and a social consensus among Asians is crucial in the formation of East Asian Community. Asians have already started to better understand each other. Now is the time for the Asian media agencies to collaborate to heal the wounds from the past century and discuss how we can strengthen the sense of solidarity among Asians. That is why this Forum includes a session on media. Kyong-min Shin, a former anchor at Munwha Broadcasting Corporation, will moderate the session. Takeshi Doki, the director at Asia Broadcasting Union, will give a presentation on the social respon-sibilities of media and a systematic approach to identify, assess and reduce the risks of disaster (Disaster Risk Reduction, DRR). Ki-hyung Bae, a producer at Korean Broadcasting System, will talk about what roles the media would play in increasing the cultural diversity for immigrant workers. Yanpang Bu, a professor at Zhenmei University in China, presents his comparative study on Korea, China and Japan¡¯s ¡®Cultural Soft-power¡¯. The author of this article, Bong-hyun Lee who is also a research fellow at Hankyo-reh Economic Institute, will speak about how Korean, Chinese and Japanese media can collaborate in order to establish East Asian Cultural Community. Myung-gu Gang, a professor of Journalism and Infor-mation Studies at Seoul National University, and Patrick Smith, the former news editor at the International Herald Tribune¡¯s Asian edition, will participate in the discussion.
