Selected by Asia CSR Expert Committee by China, Japan, and Korea Asia CSR Expert Committee (Mr. JU, Chulki, Chair) comprised of Chinese, Japanese, and South Korean business and economics experts announced a ¡°East Asia 30¡± that listed 30 top CSR performers from three East Asian countries for the first time on Nov. 28, 2010. ¡°East Asia 30¡± includes KIA Motors (Korea), China Mobile (China), and Cosmo Oil (Japan), the companies that could represent each country. By country, Japan account for 20 out of 30, while Korea and China have 5 on the list respectively. KIA Motors, Samsung SDI, Korea Gas, Amorepacific, and LG Chemical were on the list to represent Korea. Apart from ¡°East Asia 30¡± that has general characteristics, the Committee also unveiled ¡°East Asia Environment 30¡±, a list of top 30 companies in environment-friendly management; ¡°East Asia Society 30¡±, 30 companies that stand out in health safety, labor, and social responsibility; and ¡°East Asia Governance 30¡± a compilation of companies with strongest transparency. Top 30 companies by country were also announced: Korea CSR 30, China CSR 30, and Japan CSR 30. There have been a number of CSR evaluations developed by western experts. It is unprecedented that experts from three East Asian countries (China, Japan, and Korea) developed common evaluation standards incorporating Asian values to release a list of top CSR companies. Asia CSR Expert Committee which performed CSR evaluation comprises of ten Chinese, Japanese, and South Korean experts in the fields of environmental studies, society and governance. Hankyoreh Economic Research Institute (HERI), an affiliated research institute under Hankyoreh Media Group, led the implementation of evaluation studies from August, 2010. Chairman Ju, Chul-Ki of the Committee and Secretary General of UN Global Compact Korea Network said, ¡°We expect that close cooperation among three countries will lead to stronger health and social responsibility of companies in the region, which in turn will help strengthen overall relationships of China, Japan, and Korea as well as maintain social peace and stability of the Northeast Asian region.¡± A separate session explaining evaluation standards and process will be held at the Asia Future Forum scheduled on December 15~16, 2010 at Ritz Carlton Hotel, Seoul.
